A Delhi special court today granted interim protection to Robert Vadra, brother-in-law of Congress president Rahul Gandhi from arrest till February 16 in an alleged money laundering case, in which he agreed to join ED’s custodial interrogation on February 6.

Fearing pre-arrest in the case lodged by the ED regarding “ownership of undisclosed assets abroad”, Vadra’s counsel told Special Judge Arvind Kumar that presently his client is in London and will join the probe.

The court issued notice to the ED and sought their stand on Vadra’s plea by next date of hearing.

While extending the relief, the judge directed Vadra’s counsel to furnish a personal bond of Rs one lakh and a surety of like amount.

Senior Advocate K T S Tulsi, representing Vadra, submitted before the court that his client is being targeted and is being subjected to false prosecution which has a colour of political witch hunt.

ED’s counsel D P Singh and Nitesh Rana opposed the interim bail and said that during the interrogation of Manoj Arora, who is said to be an employee of Vadra, in 2009 through petroleum contract, various property worth 1.9 million pounds were purchased in London.
