The Kerala Assembly was adjourned today following massive uproar and protests by the Congress-led opposition UDF over the Sabarimala Temple issue.
The proceedings inside the Assembly turned chaotic within minutes after the session was convened.
The opposition repeated its demand of suspension of the question hour allowing adjournment to discuss the facilities in Sabarimala and an end to the prohibitory orders in the temple town.
Today is the fourth day of the House proceedings to be disrupted over the contentious issue.
At the outset of the question hour, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the Congress would cooperate with Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan, but announced that three of its legislators would commence an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Assembly’s main door to protest the decision to continue prohibitory orders in Sabarimala.
When theĀ Speaker informed that the question hour cannot be turned into a debating session, the infuriated opposition MLAs rushed towards the Speaker’s podium and started shouting slogans. When the protests continued, the Speaker was forced to rush through the listed business of the day in 21 minutes and adjourn the House till Tuesday.
