At least three terrorists who attacked the Chinese consulate in Karachi were killed after an exchange of fire with security personnel.
Two policemen were also killed in the attack which began with a loud explosion near the Chinese consulate in the morning.
After the explosion, the terrorists opened fire and attempted to enter the consulate building. The consulate’s private guards, however, quickly barricaded the building in order to stop the attackers from entering.
The situation was brought under control around two hours after the explosion. Police officers said that the terrorists had come to the consulate in a car laden with explosives.

Two civilians, a father and son, were also killed in the attack, Dr Jamali said, according to Sindh Police and the army’s media wing.

The heavily-guarded E-Street neighbourhood, which is considered a red zone, is home to a number of upscale restaurants, diplomatic missions and schools. The schools and eateries were locked down while a clearance operation was initiated.

Gunshots and multiple blasts were heard in the area at 9:30am. Images from the area showed smoke rising from the Chinese Consulate building, which also serves as the residence for Chinese diplomats and other staff.

The attackers first opened fire at a checkpost, then detonated a hand grenade in the area, DawnNewsTV reported.

Additional Inspector General (AIG) Amir Shaikh said that the attackers had parked their vehicle at some distance from the embassy before moving towards it.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi, terming it as a conspiracy against relations between the two countries.

In a statement, the prime minister ordered an immediate inquiry of the attack.

Security forces on Friday successfully foiled the attack on the consulate located in Karachi’s Clifton Block-4 area. Two policemen were martyred and a security guard injured as three terrorists tried to enter the Chinese Consulate.

The terrorists were killed before they were able to enter the consulate.

Prime Minister Khan said the elements and motives behind this attack should be uncovered.

The premier stressed that the nation was proud of the prompt action of the Rangers and police. He paid tribute to the policemen who were martyred foiling the attack.

The prime minister termed the attack a conspiracy against Pak-China economic and strategic relations. He added that such attacks would not derail relations between the two countries.
