Suzhou (China)
Japan will help China to check growing air pollution in the country. Visiting Japan’s environment minister and his Chinese counterpart have agreed to work together to tackle menace of air pollution in China.
Masaharu Nakagawa met with Li Ganjie on Saturday in the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou. Their discussions were held the day before a trilateral meeting of environment ministers that South Korea’s environment chief will also attend.
Nakagawa and Li signed a document that describes the ways in which their countries will work together to improve the quality of the air in China.
It outlines the launch of a project that entails the use of Japanese technology to upgrade anti-pollution facilities at factories in Beijing and other heavily polluted cities.
Nakagawa also called on China to prevent the spread of venomous fire ants, in the wake of the recent discovery of over 2,000 ants in a shipping container from China that arrived at a Japanese port.
Li promised to cooperate fully.
Regulations on the import of industrial waste are being tightened in China. Li said his country will provide sufficient information about any new rules.
