The Supreme Court on Monday restrained Jammu and Kashmir government from taking any coercive action against Army officials allegedly involved in Shopian firing case.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, while staying the FIR directed that no coercive action be taken against Major Aditya in connection with the incident.
The bench also issued notices to the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir government, to file its reply within two weeks.
The Supreme Court order came on a plea by Major Aditya’s father, Lt Col Karamveer Singh, seeking quashing of the FIR lodged by the Jammu and Kashmir Police against his son and other Army personnel over the firing incident in Shopian.
The Jammu and Kashmir police lodged the FIR against personnel of 10 Garhwal Rifles, including Major Aditya Kumar bringing charges of murder and attempt to murder against them.
Three civilians were killed in the incident when Army personnel fired at a stone-pelting mob in Ganovpora village in Shopian on January 27 this year. Later Chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti ordered an inquiry into the incident.
