Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday held separate bilateral meetings with leaders of three ASEAN nations – Myanmar, Vietnam and Philippines in New Delhi at Hyderabad House.
Mr Modi met Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Philippines President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. It is believed that issues of mutual interest were discussed during the meetings.
Today, Mr Modi will be addressing the plenary session of the India-ASEAN commemorative summit. Our correspondent reports that the focus of the Summit will be on counter-terrorism, security and connectivity.
A banquet will be hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind. It will be followed by a Leader’s Retreat in which ten ASEAN leaders will take part.
Leaders of ASEAN countries will attend India-ASEAN commemorative summit and also witness Republic Day celebrations as chief guests.
President of Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Prime Ministers of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, Cambodia Hun Sen , Thailand Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha and Malaysia Najib Razak and Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah have reached Delhi.
Prime Minister of Laos will be reaching New Delhi tonight. The President of Indonesia will reach today.
The Prime Minister will hold a total of nine bilateral meetings with leaders of ASEAN countries on the sidelines of the Summit.
In an unprecedented event, all the ASEAN leaders will also be the Chief Guests at the Republic Day parade on Friday.
