The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI has arrested its Assistant Programmer and a private person in a case relating to development and sale of illegal software being used for Rail ticket booking.
A case was registered against the Assistant Programmer and others on the allegations of Criminal Conspiracy, Computer related offences for unauthorized access and damage to computer or computer system, unauthorised carrying on of business of procuring and supplying of railway tickets and criminal misconduct.
Searches were conducted at 14 places including Delhi, Mumbai and Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh which has resulted in recoveries of cash of nearly 90 lakh, gold jewellery valued over 61 lakh, 15 laptops, 15 Hard Disks, 52 Mobile phones, 24 SIMs, Notebooks, Routers, dongles, Pen Drives and other incriminating material from the premises of the accused and others. The accused was produced today before the Designated Court in Delhi.
The said public servant had earlier worked in Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) during 2007 to 2011. It was further alleged that the accused had developed one illicit software for duping the Tatkal ticket booking system being run by IRCTC and conspired with a private person whereby they were indulging in distributing the said software to private persons for their unauthorized use for a hefty consideration.
Use of such software is illegal as per rules and regulations of IRCTC and also under the Railways Act. It was also alleged that the said accused was collecting money for the use of such software by certain booking agents and had amassed huge wealth from these activities. It was also revealed that accused were allegedly receiving money from the dealers for the use of said software through Bitcoins and hawala network.
