The number of Income Tax returns filed in the last four financial years has registered a growth of over 80 per cent.
The number was 3.79 crore in the year 2013-14 which has increased to 6.85 crore in 2017-18.
According to direct tax statistics released by the CBDT on Monday, the number of taxpayers showing income above one crore rupees has also registered a sharp increase of 60 per cent in four years.

 
The CBDT said, there is a constant growth in the direct tax-GDP ratio over the last three years.

 
The ratio of 5.98 per cent in the financial year 2017-18 is the best direct tax GDP ratio in the last 10 years.

 
According to statistics, the average tax paid by corporate taxpayers has increased from 32.28 lakh rupees in 2014-15 to 49.95 lakh rupees in 2017-18.

 
There is also an increase of 26 per cent in the average tax paid by individual taxpayers in the period. During the three-year period from 2014-15 to 2017-18, the number of salaried taxpayers has increased from 1.70 crore in 2014-15 to 2.33 crore in 2017-18.

 
The average income declared by the salaried taxpayers has gone up by 19 per cent from 5.76 lakh rupees to 6.84 lakh rupees in this period.

 
During the same period, there has also been a growth of 19 per cent in the number of non-salaried individual taxpayers from 1.95 crore to 2.33 crore.

 
The average non-salary income declared has increased by 27 per cent from 4.11 lakh rupees in 2014-15 to 5.23 lakh rupees in 2017-18.
