At least 80 people were killed in Nigeria due to an explosion at an illegal oil refinery in the southern part of the country. Police said that the explosion occurred late Friday at the illegal site in southern Nigeria.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), spokesperson Ifeanyi Nnaji told the media, that the toll could rise further.
Local media reports also said more than 100 people were killed in the blast.
Illegal crude refining is common in the southern oil region where thieves vandalize pipelines to steal crude which they refine to sell on the black market.
