At least eight Maoists including five women were killed in an encounter in the Gottepau forest area on the Telangana – Chattisgarh boarder this morning. The Khammam district Maoists’ secretary Kiran and Cherla area commander Lachchanna were also among the dead. Two police personnel have also been injured in the encounter.
Khammam district police informed media that the encounter took place during the wee hours when Central Reserve Police Forces, Greyhounds of Telangana government and Chattisgarh police were carrying out a joint operation. They also informed that arms also have been recovered from the site.
Huge cache of arms were also recovered by Joint operation by the Central Reserve Police Forces and State Police of Telangana and Chattisgarh. The operation was reportedly taken up targeting Maoist Telangana State Committee Secretary, Haribhushan and a few other rebel leaders. According to the police, an AK 47, 6 SLRs and three 303 rifles have been recovered from the encounter area.
