At least 8 people were killed and 14 others injured in a road accident in Chapawat district today. The accident took place when their vehicle fell into a gorge near Pithoragarh in Lohaghat area. Local police, PAC and ITBP’s personals conducted the rescue operation.
Seriously injured 3 persons were airlifted to Haldwani for better treatment. Union minister of state Ajay Tamta reached the spot and gave necessary direction. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
He has issued instructions to ensure proper treatment of the injured. Chief Minister has announced financial assistance of 1 lakh rupees each for the family of the deceased and 50,000 rupees each to those, who are seriously injured.
