Seventy seven Indian fishermen released by Sri Lanka will return home today. The fishermen hamlets in Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai are awaiting the arrival of fellow fishermen released from Lankan jails. The fishermen are being handed over to Indian Coast Guard by Sri Lankan Navy at the international maritime boundary line.

These fishermen will be brought to a port near Karaikal today evening. Seventy seven fishermen from Tamil Nadu will brought home in ICGS ships Rani Durgavathy and Ameya. Local fishermen are urging the central and state governments to ensure the immediate release of 102 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.

The boats are precariously berthed and kept without any protection from vagaries of nature. They want a lasting solution to the issue of Sri Lankan Navy apprehending fishermen from Tamil Nadu at the international maritime boundary line.
