The death toll has risen to 74 in twin gun and car bomb attacks in southern Iraq. Deputy health chief for mainly Shiite province of Dhiqar, Abdel Hussein al-Jabri said, at least 74 people died, including seven Iranians, and another 93 people were injured in the attacks near Nasiriyah, the capital of Dhiqar province.
Officials said, the first attack struck close to a restaurant while shortly afterwards a car bomb targeted a security checkpoint in the same area.
A news agency quoting security sources said, the attackers were disguised as members of the Hashed al-Shaabi, a mainly Shiite paramilitary alliance which has fought alongside the army and police against IS in northern Iraq. The Islamic State group has said it carried out the attack
