At least 60 people have been killed due to heavy rain and landslides in Uttarakhand in 48 hours. Hundreds of houses damaged and about five thousand people shifted to safer places. Schools have been closed for three days. About 1200 roads have been blocked at various places and some districts are completely marooned.

The rain this year has surpassed records of past many decades. Heavy rain and landslides have disrupted power and water supply along with communication and train services. The authorities were asked to remain alert for any situation. The remote areas of Almora, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi were remained cut from rest of the state following the landslide and thousands of Yaatris are stranded at several places.


According official estimate, the death toll increased to thirty three due to cloud burst and about seventy seven houses were completely damaged. Meanwhile rescue and relief works are being hampered due to heavy rain which is continuing at many places.
Flood situation in UP worsens


Several bordering districts of In Uttar Pradesh have been flooded due to heavy rain in the upper regions of Uttarakhand. The water is coming into Ganga, Ramganga and Sharda due to heavy inflow from the barrages. The situation remains grim in certain eastern districts due to intermittent rain.


Though there were no heavy rain in the plains of the state but light to medium rain continue to lash several areas in the eastern region.


In Bihar the newly erected parallel bund to main Saran embankment breached in Gopalganj district on Saturday affecting over two lakh people. Breach took place near Simaria village in Barauli block. Flood water has spread in several villages under Barauli, Manjha, Sidhwalia and Baikunthpur blocks. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held an emergency meeting and reviewed the flood situation. He said, mega relief camps would be run on the lines of similar camps opened during Kosi deluge in 2008.
