The government today informed that 60 districts have been freed from the menace of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the country during the last five years. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today,
Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that following the resolute implementation of the National Policy and Action Plan to address LWE, the scenario has improved significantly both in terms of reduced violence and constriction of its geographical spread.
The Minister said the number of LWE-related violent incidents has come down by 73 per cent in comparison to 2010. Mr Rai added that the number of deaths of security forces and civilians has also come down to 138 in 2023 and the number of affected districts has been reduced to 38 in April 2024. The Minister noted that during the last five years, four thousand 350 crore rupees have been released for capacity building in the LWE-affected states.
