In an other setback for congress party, six of its MLAs in Tripura today joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) at a rally in Agartala. They joined new party in presence of TMC Vice-President Mukul Roy.
Mr. Roy said these six MLAs joined Trinamool with the consent of West Bengal Chief Minister and party chief Mamata Banerjee, who just after Bengal assembly polls had declared about her next mission with Tripura.
Roy told media that Trinamool Congress will build up an intense movement eyeing the 2018 Tripura assembly polls.
Congress legislator Sudip Roy Barman, accompanied by three legislators, called on the Assembly Speaker and handed over a letter of disassociation with Congress signed by 6 MLAs. They sought his admission to form Trinamool Congress Legislature Party in the assembly. Congress MLAs who signed the letter include Sudip Roy Burman, Ashish Saha, Biswabandhu Sen, Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl, Pranjit Singha Roy and Dilip Sarkar.
However, two MLAs Pranjit Singha Roy and Dilip Sarkar, for health reasons, remained abstain from today’s both political meetings. Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath has said he would call all the six Congress MLAs for individual hearing and verification of their signature. He said after consulting the rules with experts, final decision will be taken up in a day or two.
