A total of 421 nomination papers have been filed for the voting in the third phase to be held for 62 Assembly seats in West Bengal, on 21st of April. The constituencies are spread in Uttar Kolkata and Burdwan, Murshidabad and Nadia districts. Election Commission sources informed that 171 nominations were filed in Murshidabad, 108 in Nadia, 83 in Burdwan and 59 in Uttar Kolkata. Thursday is the last day for withdrawal.
Meanwhile BJP leader and Union minister, Rajnath Singh is attending three rallies at Garbeta, Bankura and Saltor today in Jagalmahal prior to the 11th April polls. Party leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold similar rallies tomorrow at Madarihaat, Siliguri and Asansole. Congress chairperson, Sonia Gandhi is to hold her party campaign in Bengal later this week.
In another development, reacting to a video sting and BJP’s demand for urgent action against him, Bidhan Nagar Mayor and TMC candidate from Rajarhat-Newtown, Sabyasachi Duta today said, supporting the syndicate is his USP and not something to be ashamed of. BJP on Tuesday moved Election Commission demanding cancellation of candidature of Mr. Dutta and all the other TMC candidates accused in Narada video sting operation.
Threatening to go to Court, party spokesperson, Jayprakash Mazumdar submitted a CD of a TV channel sting to the West Bengal CEO asking for urgent action against Dutta who the BJP claimed, had said in the sting that he supported syndicates of party supporters because without them the Mamata government will not survive in Bengal.
