Four personnel of the para-military Central Reserve Police Force, CRPF, were killed in a Maoist attack Saturday evening in poll-bound Chhattisgarh and a jawan was injured in the incident.

According to reports Maoists ambushed the CRPF team on Basaguda-Tarrem road in Bijapur district of Bastar division. The CRPF personnel were part of a road opening party when the Maoists triggered a blast in Avapalli area targeting the mine protected vehicle of the CRPF and then opened indiscriminate fire on the security personnel.

Jawans retaliated the Maoist attack.

In the gun battle, an Assistant Sub Inspector, a head constable and two constables lost their lives.

The CRPF personnel belonged to 168 battalion. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot of the blast and massive combing operations have been launched.

The injured jawan was airlifted to the state capital Raipur for the treatment.
