At least 27 passenger were killed and many received burn injuries when a Delhi bound bus caught fire in Motihari district. According to reports, the driver of the bus, which was on its way to Delhi from Muzaffarpur, tried to save a two-wheeler when he lost control of the vehicle. The death toll is expected to rise as several injured are in critical condition.

The incident happened on national highway 28 near Moga Hotel in Kotwa area around 3 pm.
Police officials said the passengers who managed to come out of the bus had been admitted to a hospital.

Expressing grief over the horrific accident, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said the government authorities would extend all help to the affected families.

“It is a really painful incident, local administration officials are present at the spot. We will extend all possible help to the families of those who died,” Nitish Kumar said.

Meanwhile, Bihar Disaster Management and Relief Minister Dinesh Chandra Yadav announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the kin of the deceased persons.

“It is a really sad incident. There is a provision to give compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of dead in such cases and it will be given,” he said.
