At least 24 worshippers killed and 23 others injured in twin suicide bomb attacks during morning prayers in a mosque in Maiduguri of Nigeria. Boko Haram militants are suspected to be behind the deadly attacks.
Two female suicide bombers killed 24 people at a mosque outside the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri yesterday.
The attack which left buildings damaged and debris scattered inside also wounded 23 people.
It was the first such assault in the northeast since early February, when two suicide bombers – also women blew themselves up at a camp for internally displaced people in Dikwa, which is some 85 km from Maiduguri.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but it resembled others by Boko Haram in its campaign to carve out an Islamic state in the region.
President Muhammadu Buhari said he is heartbroken by the attack on innocent worshippers.
He noted that the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, are mindless and godless and do not represent true Islam.
