AS MANY AS 230 nominations have been filed in 18 constituencies which are going to poll in the first phase on November 12. Today was the last day for filing of nominations in Chhattisgarh for the first phase of Assembly elections in 18 constituencies.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place tomorrow and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is October 26.

These 18 assembly segments include 12 seats of all seven districts of Maoist affected Bastar division and 6 constituencies of Rajnandgaon district.

These constituencies are in the most Maoist affected region of Chhattisgarh There are about 31 lakh 80 thousand voters in these 18 seats.

The Key contestants who have filed nominations today were Chief Minister Raman Singh as a BJP Candidate from Rajnandgaon seat and Karuna Shukla, niece of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as a Congress candidate from the same seat.

Chhattisgarh has 90 constituencies and the assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 12 and 20.

The notification for the elections in the rest of the 72 constituencies in the second phase would be issued on October 26.
