North and South Korea have agreed to quickly restore military Communication lines to prevent accidental confrontations at sea. The two Koreas are promoting dialogue on multiple fronts following a joint declaration signed by their leaders in April.

The agreement came at working-level military talks on Monday as part of the implementation of the declaration.

Military officials met for about an hour at a South Korean facility on the western side of the Korean Peninsula near the military demarcation line.

The communication lines connect liaison offices of the 2 militaries to prevent accidental confrontations at sea.

South Korea’s Defense Ministry says it agreed with the North on the prompt replacement of lines that are aged or that have been damaged by wild fires.

On the same day, the South Korean Unification Ministry announced 2 more meetings to promote dialogue. It says vice-ministerial talks on connecting road and rail systems between the Koreas will be held on Tuesday and Thursday at the truce village of Panmunjom. Seoul and Pyongyang will also discuss forestry cooperation on Wednesday next week.

Meanwhile, the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced about 100 basketball players and officials will visit the North’s capital Pyongyang ahead of a planned inter-Korean competition. The event will be held on Wednesday and Thursday next week.
