The 19th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated today. The day marks India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War and remembers those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

On 26th July, 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders. The war was fought for more than 60 days.

The three-day celebrations began on Tuesday at the Drass War Memorial in Kargil town in Jammu and Kashmir. On the first day, tributes were paid to the War Heroes by laying wreath at the memorial.

Yesterday, the veterans of the war and serving heroes shared their experiences during the war at a function. There was a briefing on Operation Vijay battles.

The main function of the wreath laying ceremony will be held today.

The Whole Nation is Paying tribute to the Martyrs of Kargil War at different place in the Country. The main function of Kargil Vijay will start soon at Drass Wa Memorial where Lt Gen Ranbir Singh Commander Northern Command, the Chief Guest of the Programme and all rank officers are scheduled to pay tribute to the martyrs by laying wreath at Drass war memorial. The Chief Guest will also interact with Jawans, Veer Naris, and war heroes.
