Sixteen Opposition parties including Congress today urged the Election Commission to revert to the ballot paper system, claiming the faith of the people in the EVMs has been eroded by they what called tampering of voting machines. They also submitted a memorandum to the commission in this regard.
The parties included Congress, BSP, DMK, Trinamool Congress and the Left met top EC officials to demand reintroduction of the ballot paper system. After the meeting senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal told reporters that the Commission said it would soon convene an all-party meet to discuss the issue.
Earlier in the day Opposition parties met in Parliament and decided to jointly meet the EC on the issue.
