fire incidentAt least 14 people were killed including ten women and about 20 injured in a massive fire in Kamala Mills Compound in Lower Parel locality in Mumbai.

BMC Control room has confirmed that the fire broke out after midnight in a pub on the third floor of the building on Senapati Bapat Road in Central Mumbai. The building houses commercial establishments including hotels.

The injured have been admitted to KEM, Bhatia and Airoli hospitals. Six fire tenders were rushed into service. According to fire Control department, the fire is now under control.

The six storied building in the thickly populated central Mumbai area  hosts commercial establishments, restaurants,a pub and media office of a TV channel.  It is suspected that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in electric wires. However Youngsters were partying in the Pub at the time fire broke out. One dead body is yet to be identified. Exploding of Gas cylinders added to the fury of the major fire. The fire also engulfed the bamboo canopy of a rooftop restaurant. BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehata immediately rushed to the spot. The massive fire has put a question mark on the recent decision of the State government to allow restaurants to operate on the roof top of the buildings.
