At least 13 students, including ten girls have drowned at Raigad district’s Murud Janjira beach. While five of the students were rescued by local fishermen and authorities, a few others are still feared missing. According to initial information, about 20-25 students had entered the waters for a swim.

They, however, misjudged the tide and were dragged deep into the waters.

They were among a group of 130 students of Pune’s Abeda Inamdar College who had arrived at the beach for picnic this morning. A joint team of police and Indian Coast Guard officials is conducting search and rescue operation in the area.
