At least 100 people have been reportedly killed in a landslide in remote part of Papua New Guinea today. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports that the landslide hit Kaokalam Village in Enga Province of the Island nation. Although authorities have not confirmed the figure, the number of those killed could be much higher.
Papua New Guinea, in the north of Australia, is a diverse, developing nation of mostly subsistence farmers with 800 languages. With 10 million people, it is also the most populous South Pacific nation after Australia.
