PATNA : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated three major railway projects in Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs 7000 crore.
PM dedicated a railcumroad bridge at Patna, inaugurated another at Munger and laid the foundation of additional bridge at Mokama over the River Ganga.
“Total cost of these three bridges is about Rs 7200 crore and these bridges will go a long way in giving connectivity to north and south Bihar, said a senior Railway Ministry official adding “It will also help in development of North Bihar.”
Modi laid foundation stone of second Mokama double line railway bridge adjacent to existing Rajendra Pul.
“PM dedicated Patna Ganga bridge (4.56 km) to the nation and inaugurated the freight operation through Munger railcumroad bridge,” he said.
There are three bridges over the entire 460 km length of the river Ganga in Bihar one road bridge at Naugachia, a railcumroad bridge
at Mokama and the third road bridge Mahatma Gandhi Setu at Patna.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Munger rail bridge to the country at a function at Chhaukia in Vaishali district of Bihar and flagged off an inaugural train over the rail bridge.
He also dedicated a 5 km-long rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga between Digha in Patna and Sonepur in north Bihar. He also laid down the foundation stone for an additional railway bridge at Mokamah, some 100 km east of Patna.
These bridges will be of great help for the movement and transportation in Bihar and ultimately prove to be a boon for the state.
Prime Minister said that his government has fastracked the development of the nation in comparison to previous UPA government at the centre.
Addressing a public meeting at Chhaukiya in Hajipur in Bihar, Mr. Modi said in last 18 months of NDA government 2.5 times more development works have been completed in comparison to last 5 years of UPA government by clearing pending projects.
The Prime Minister said a new Tejas train with a speed of 130 kms per hour will be shortly introduced by railway to cover long distance comparatively in short period.
Mr. Modi said railway is not only medium of transportation but it is helpful to speed up economy of the country.
He said railway needs to be updated to meet the challenges in changing scenario.
Stressing on enhancement of infrastructure of railway Mr. Modi said NDA government will boost up the speed of the trains, qualitative passenger services, amenities on stations, complaint redressal mechanism and use of digital technology.
The Prime Minister said in line with this a huge foreign direct investment (FDI) of Rs 40 thousand crores have been attracted for two mega locomotive projects at Madhepura and Marhoura in Bihar.
Mr. Modi said without development of Eastern parts of the country including Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern UP, West Bengal, Odisha, Chattisgarh, Assam and North Eastern states sustainable development of the country could not been achieved.
He said Centre and states should go hand in hand for acceleration of development work across the country.
The Prime Minister said the centre has taken decision to provide electricity in remaining 18 thousand unelectrified villages in the period of one thousand days.
He said 6000 villages have already been electrified.
