Vladimir Putin was sworn in as Russia’s president for a historic fourth term at a ceremony in the Kremlin today, extending his almost two-decade rule by another six years. Mr. Putin has been in power for 18 years.

He was re-elected with more than 76 percent of the vote, his best ever election performance.

Today’s ceremony was similar to the other three that have taken place in the last two decades. In a Kremlin hall adorned with gold, a door opened and Vladimir Putin strode across the carpet.

The event was the fourth inauguration for the now 65-year-old president since 2000. And he seems to have reached the peak of his power. The March 18 election saw Putin achieve his best-ever result, 77 percent of the vote.
