At least 100 people were killed by gunmen in an overnight attack in Sobane-Kou village in Koundou district. The village is inhabited by the Dogon ethnic group. Officials said, 95 people, have been found dead with many of the bodies burned adding that the search for more bodies is underway.

The government said suspected terrorists attacked the village at around 03 a.m local time. It said that at least 19 people were still missing. A survivor said about 50 heavily armed men arrived on motorbikes and pickups. He said, they first surrounded the village and then attacked and anyone who tried to escape was killed.

Clashes between Dogon hunters and semi-nomadic Fulani herders are frequent since a militant Islamist uprising in northern Mali in 2012. In the same region in March, more than 130 Fulani villagers were killed by armed men wearing traditional Dogon hunters’ clothing.
