The flag was noticed by locals on a tree in paddy field and they immediately informed Belsor police. Police removed the flag and launched an investigation into the incident. Sources said the flag was black in colour with ‘Join ISIS’ written in white along with some words in Arabic.

Earlier, on May 2, similar six IS NE flags were recovered in Goalpara district on a river bank near Goalpara town. Police there probing into the issue stated that the flags may have been put up by miscreants to create tension among the people of the area.

The flags were found days ahead of the visit of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, to the state.
