Rajya Sabha was adjourned for ten minutes till noon as opposition benches trooped into the well of the House demanding restoration of funds to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Raising the issue Javed Ali Khan of the Samajwadi Party alleged that the NDA government is discriminating a minority institution like AMU.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukthar Abbas Naqvi clarified that the government has no intention to dilute the status of any minority or any central university.
He said the issue is sub judice and a final decision will be taken after the court verdict. Dissatisfied with his reply, opposition members from Congress, Samajwadi Party and Left parties trooped into the well raising the slogans against the government.
