Pakistan’s foreign minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has cancelled a planned visit to Japan, amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan over the situation in the Kashmir region.

According to NHK, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi was scheduled to visit Japan for four days starting on Sunday. He was supposed to meet Foreign Minister Taro Kono to discuss conditions in Afghanistan, where the security situation continues to deteriorate.

But Japanese officials say Islamabad informed them that the visit had been cancelled because the foreign minister has to deal with the regional situation.

A suicide bomb attack by a Pakistani militant group JeM killed 40 soldiers of Indian paramilitary forces on February 14th.

India has accused Pakistan of supporting the attack. Islamabad denies the allegation. India says it is ready to take retaliatory measures if necessary.
