At least 45 people have been killed due to heavy rains and flood like situation in Gujarat in last 24 hours. Chief Minister Anandiben Patel made an aerial survey of flood affected areas of Saurashtra. Chief Minister will also held high level meeting with District collector and other senior officers in Amreli after making aerial survey of worst affected areas of Amreli and Rajkot districts.

Amreli district is the worst affected, where 36 people died in the flood fury yesterday. 13 people died when two houses collapsed in Nani Vabhaniya village near Bagasara town of Amreli district. Apart from this, 3 people died in Bhavnagar district, 2 died in Gaondal in Rajkot district and and three people died in Surat district in different rain related incidents.

However, the situation in many parts of Saurashtra has slightly improved following low rain fall since early this morning. Local weather office has issued warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in most parts of the state during the next 24 hours

Schools and colleges in the worst affected districts like Amreli, Rajkot, Gir Somnath, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Bhavnagar districts remained closed, while markets are partially open. NDRF personnel and Air force helicopters are busy in rescue and relief works in worst affected areas.

Many parts of Ahmedabad city has also witnessed heavy water-logging after yesterday’s heavy downpour Dams and rivers are over flowing in Saurashtra region and people staying in low lying villages have been shifted to the safer places. State Government has cancelled the leaves of all officials and ordered them not to leave headquarters.
