Walia asks agencies to check water borne diseases in city

 He exhorted all agencies to submit their weekly reports with all details, so that the Department of Health could get ready to face any challenge because of occurrence of diseases.  The meeting was attended by the Director, Health Services, Dr. H. V. Kamath, Chief Health Officers from MCD, NDMC and Delhi Cantt. and other Senior Officers from DJB, National Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC) and National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).   

Dr. Walia stated that the concerned Zonal Health Officers should fix responsibility in case of out break of such diseases in their respective area. All hospitals, dispensaries and private medical practitioners are required to follow the National Malaria Treatment Guidelines available at NVBDCP website.  The local bodies are required to take pro-active measures in the shape of identifying the hot-spots, integrated vector control measures, completing supervised radical treatment of the positive cases for 14 days and having external quality assurance for the malaria lapse.

It was reported that malaria has shown an upwards trend.  Dr. Walia instructed the agencies to concentrate on regular checking of mosquitoes breeding in the localities.  It was also reported that 4113 challans have been issued and 48000 legal notices have also been issued.  Further around 500 to 600 challans are being done every week.  During this month, 36 cases were reported from Najafgarh Zone, ten from Narela Zone and another 14 from Shahdara North Zone.  As regards dengue fever and chikungunia are concerned, there has been substantial decrease in number of cases.  The total cases in 2010 was 6259 whereas in 2011 upto 28th August, the cases are only 48 as compared to 384 in corresponding period last year.  Even number of deaths has also gone down from eight to one.

Dr. Walia further asked the concerned agencies to sensitized their staff for early recognition of warning sings and symptoms of dengue hemorrhagic fever, running lab and blood banking services optimally and using insecticide treated bed nets in the dengue wards of the hospitals.
