Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajpati Raju today said, the prime objective of regional air connectivity scheme, UDAAN, is to facilitate air travel for the masses.
Briefing media at the stakeholders consultation for second round of bidding under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), Mr Raju said UDAAN is a key component of the National Civil Aviation Policy. He said, a total of 72 airports will be connected under the scheme out of which 27 are currently served airports.
The second round of bidding for UDAAN, is likely to be held within three months. The second round aims to include flight routes shorter than 150 kilometres and will also include unserved routes.
The first round considered only unserved locations. 128 routes were awarded to five operators in the first round of bidding. Secretary, Civil Aviation Ministry, RN Choubey said airlines have flagged the minimum mandatory criteria of 9 RCS seats per flight.
Mr Choubey also said that economy class passengers will benefit from GST, but business class fares will go up.
