Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told Rajya Sabha, an inquiry is being conducted against what he termed certain very big people for tax evasion showing as agriculture income.
He told, opposition members, who raised the issue of certain affluent farmers taking agriculture route to evade tax officials, there is no question of taxing genuine farmers.
Sharad Yadav of JDU, quoting a private television channel, alleged, nearly 6.50 lakh farmers illegally earned Rs 2 thousand lakh crore during 2011-12.
Jaitley sought the support of opposition leaders in nailing down unscrupulous tax evaders who take agriculture route.
