More than 1 crore LPG consumers have given up their cooking gas subsidies during past one year, informed Petroleum and Natural gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan here today. The minister said that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a call to the rich people to give up the subsidies in March last year,1 crore 13 lakh LPG consumers have followed the call.
Mr Pradhan said that surrendered gas cylinders would be transferred to the poor who use wood for cooking. He said the country has 16 crore 64 lakh LPG connections, of which 1 crore 13 lakh have now given up subsidies.
The Minister also said Prime Minister would launch Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana on 1st of next month at Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. He said the aim of the scheme is to provide free-of-cost LPG connections to 5 crore BPL families in 3 years.
