MCD to exempt rural areas from property tax

The delegation which was led by Mahasabha’s President, Choudhary Rajinder Singh Solanki and Jagdish Singh Tanwar strongly demanded that all the 360 villages (whether rural or urban) should be exempted from property tax and building bye-laws.

They also demanded dismantling of STF constituted by the Delhi Government.  Mayor assured them that MCD is favourably committed to implement all their demands.  It has passed Resolution and sent them to the Delhi Government for approval.

Prof. Abbi demanded from Delhi Government to immediately issue the Notification for Property Tax exemption in villages and urban villages because Govt. of NCT of Delhi has not paid any heed to the five Resolutions passed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi during 2007-2010 in this regard.  She said that the exemption should be made applicable from 2007 itself.  She said that the authority to take decision in this regard rests with Delhi Government but due to political motives, they are ignoring the Resolutions passed by the local body.

Mayor reminded that Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s Resolution No.307 dated 11/09/2007; Standing Committee’s Resolution No.83 dated 21/05/2008; Standing Committee’s Resolution No.1026 dated 31/12/2008; MCD’s Resolution No.1089 dated 16/01/2009; and Standing Committee’s Resolution No.656 dated 10/11/2010 have been sent to Delhi Government for their approval but Delhi Government is not taking any decision over the issue and sitting over the Resolutions.

Prof. Rajni Abbi demanded Delhi Government to fasten the process of amendment in the DMC Act so that rural and urban villages are also exempted from property tax.

Mayor said that the House of the MCD has passed a Resolution on Tuesday itself approving dismantling of STF constituted by Delhi Government.  It has also said that unless the lay-out-plans are in place in rural areas, there is no place for implementation for building-bye-laws
