Make in India week: Maharashtra to tap Rs. 5 lakh crore investments

TIA NEWS /

MAKE IN INDIAMaharashtra is likely to tap Rs. 4 to 5 lakh crore industrial investments through agreements during the maiden Mumbai chapter of ‘Make in India’ (MII) week to be held February 13.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said they have been working on stitching the agreements for investments in state for the last three months.

The mega event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under ‘Magnetic Maharashtra’ – the catchline to attract investments to Maharashtra – integrated development of industries and agriculture through higher foreign and domestic investments would be diligently pursued by Maharashtra.

Of the estimated Rs 4 to 5 lakh crore investment, long term component for agro-sector would work out to Rs 2 lakh crore.

The government has decided to expand the textile hub from 9 at present to 20 across the state. Food processing, which is following the global trend, is being explored by both the state and the Centre.

The government believes that ‘Make In India’ can help the state override negative growth in the agro-sector due to recurring droughts through higher investments.

Investments in the food processing and textile sectors will directly benefit farmers in backward regions of Marathwada, Vidarbha, North Maharashtra and Konkan.

Besides, this state’s huge potential to scale up cotton cultivation and processing would be boosted. It would directly benefit more than three million farmers.

The investments in textile parks, with modern machines and a strong distribution system would bring in higher remuneration to farmers.

Besides, investment in horticulture and boosting export potential is also being worked out.
