Olympians Akhil, Jitender to battle it out against foreign pugilists in event

Former Commonwealth Gold medalist Akhil Kumar former Olympian Jitender Kumar, WBC Asian Boxing Champion Brijesh Kumar Meena along with pugilists from Philippines, Georgia, Tanzania and France will trade their wares in the event “Legend and New hopes”’ on 10 February 2018 at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.
Speaking at a press meet organized by Hope & Glory Boxing in association with WBC and Boxing Premiere League , Akhil Kumar said “Being a boxer, I am very well aware of the challenges that young athletes encounter to pursue their dreams.
According to him, ”talented and driven players are still deprived of basic amenities required to nurture their career beyond their amateur days. This event is an excellent attempt to overcome these barriers and prepare them for international pro boxing championships under the mentorship of senior boxers.
“Legend & New hopes” is aimed at providing a platform for our boxers with much needed exposure and the support required. I congratulate everyone associated with Hope & Glory Boxing, and wish great success for the event. He added
Giving more details about the event he said that there will be total 6 bouts; 4 Men and 2 women bouts. Besides entertainment, the event is conceptualized to focus attention on the unappreciated Indian Pro boxers.
“Young upcoming/underrated boxers like WBC champion and other Indian pro boxers who are grinding away with no sustenance from their choice of passion” he said adding “women pro boxers of the country will be the key beneficiaries of such initiatives.
Speaking Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director, Hope & Glory Boxing Vikas Malik said “We want to present quality sporting events so that players can develop their technique and compete with international pro boxers, and at the same time Indian sports fan start expecting quality from their sports personalities.
Making Pro Boxing a viable career for Indian amateur boxers who currently quit after years of training & fighting with no reward apart from government support is our foremost objective.
”We want to infuse confidence in them to approach us so that we can give them a platform to showcase their talent without being exploited .We will strive to promote all the stars and use marquee players to highlight young blood.”
