Defending champions India will take on mighty Japan in their opening match of the fifth women’s Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament at Donghae City in South Korea tomorrow.
The team, led by experienced defender Sunita Lakra and vice-captain Savita, will have a tough opening test, as World no.12 Japan have in the past given India a hard fight, often challenging them with a structured defence.
In the 2013 Asian Champions Trophy final, Japan had beaten India to emerge winners.
Sunita said the Indian team is high on confidence after doing well against higher ranked teams at the recent Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
The other teams participating in the competition are: China, Malaysia and hosts Korea.
