The Chief Minister further stated that appropriate instructions will be issued in this regard. The CM lauded the efforts of Delhi Transco Limited in its 9th Foundation Day function.  The Delhi Transco Limited has been paying dividend to the Government for the last four years.  This is one of the few entities of Delhi Government which are earning profit and paying dividend.  Power Minister, Mr Harun Yusuf, Chief Secretary and CMD, DTL, Mr. P.K. Tripathi and other senior officers were present on this occasion.

She further stated that Delhi would have an additional power supply of around 1500 MW after a few months from Bawana and Jhajjhar Power Stations.  She also assured Delhiites that they will continue to have quality and adequate power supply in future. This year on 24 June, 2011 a highest ever peak demand of 4994 MW has been met successfully.  The journey of power supply in Delhi started in 1905 with 2 MW generation.  It has come a long way as Delhi has been able to successfully met power demand around 5000 MW.  She added that power reforms in Delhi have brought in a sea change apart from bringing substantial improvement in satisfaction level of the customers.  The reforms in Delhi are being turned as a role model and are being emulated by other States and even by a few foreign countries.

1st July, 2002 was a very significant day in the history Delhi’s power sector.  On this day, Delhi Vidhut Board was unbundled into five successors entities. Three companies were created for distribution in joint venture with private sector. The Government kept the generation and transmission with it and created one company for each of these activities.  For the first time, it was decided to give due attention to all aspects of power sector as earlier only supply aspect was being attended to. This brought a change and there is no hue and cry due to power shortage or power cuts.  The Delhiites have been feeling a sigh of relief and administration is also having sound sleep throughout the night as there has been no such complaints.

Since its inception Delhi Transco has come a long way in strengthening the power system of Delhi.  There are 28 sub stations of 220 KV level and 3 sub stations of 220 KV level are 614 ckt km including the underground cables.  The present transformation capacity at 400 KV level is 3465 MVA and 8060 at 220 KV level.  Many new sub stations are under execution and will be operational in the next few months.  DTL is now capable of handling of as much load as is required to fulfill the need of Delhiites.  It has invested crores of rupees in establishment of new sub-stations, laying new lines, maintenance and up-gradation of old network.   Dikshit stated that the power sector in Delhi is capable enough to meet any challenge in future.

Speaking on this occasion, mr  Harun Yusuf stated that mrs . Dikshit immediately after taking over as Chief Minister in Delhi, assessed the quantum of future requirements.  It is only because of her vision and dynamic leadership power reforms in Delhi have been successful.  The State is ready to meet huge power demand.  It has started its own generation after a gap of more than two decades.  The Bawana project substantiates this very fact.  The demand of power is increasing every year at the rate of around 8%.  It is expected that peak power demand in Delhi will touch 11000 MW in 2021.

The Chief Secretary, Shri Tripathi stated that T&D losses have come down from 52 per cent to 17 per cent.  The functioning of DTL has been more than satisfactory as it has been earning profit.  With its strong and capable system Delhi Transco Limited has been able to wheel 5000 MW of power, its also capable of wheeling as much power as required to energies Delhi.
On this occasion, five employees were awarded for their meritorious services.  The 220 KV sub-station at Shalimar Bagh was adjudged the best substation and 220 Pragati KV substations was declared as first runner-up.
