The Commissioner, Trade and Tax, Delhi government, Rajendra Kumar informed that the Trade & Taxes Department said that beginning with 12th of July, 2011, the department has raided the premises of approximately 29 importers / dealers and have discovered documents and materials reflecting transactions worth thousands of crores on which payment of VAT has not been made.
He said that department has also discovered undeclared sale of Diamonds worth Rs. 5150 Crore.
Of all these materials / evidences that the department has been able to lay its hands upon, the most impressive one pertains to the trade of diamond. Of this trade alone, the department has discovered undeclared sales worth approx. Rs.5150 crores. Apart from the trade of diamond the dealers pertaining to other trades such as, computer parts, jewellery, chemicals, and sanitary goods have also been intensively surveyed by the department and significant results have been achieved. The premises of several dealers have been sealed and bank accounts have been attached.
In addition to the raids on the business premises of the unscrupulous dealers, the department has further intensified the checking of goods vehicle on inter-state routes and other critical places. In the month of July itself, till date the department has checked 203 number of goods vehicles and of these, 131 vehicles were found to be in movement without proper documents as required in the Delhi VAT Laws. An estimated amount of Rs. 82 lacs (approx.) have been realized by the department for the checking of goods vehicles since 1st of July, 2011.
