The government today said, it was engaged with the opposition to evolve a consensus on the Goods and Services Tax Bill so that it could be passed in the next session of Parliament. Briefing media on the achievement of his Ministry in two years, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that he is confidant that the government will have the support of number of members required to pass the GST Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
Mr Naidu, who is also the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, said 44 bills are still pending in the Upper House for which he is in touch with leaders of different political parties and Rajya Sabha chairman. Mr Naidu also announced the names of the 13 new cities which have won the fast track competition conducted under the Smart City Mission. Lucknow has topped the list with the improved quality of smart city plan.
Other cities include Warangal in Telangana, Dharmshala in Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Raipur New Town, Kolkata, Bhagalpur in Bihar, Panji, Port Blair, Imphal, Ranchi, Agartala and Faridabad. He said, the 13 cities which have been selected in the fast track competition have proposed a total investment of 30,229 crore rupees.
