FTII students hold protest at Jantar Mantar

(Last Updated On: 03/08/2015)

Film and Television Institute of India, FTII students today brought their protest against the appointment of TV actor Gajendra Chauhan as its Chairman to the national capital. Over 80 students of the Pune-based institute held a protest at Jantar Mantar. Chauhan, whose appointment as FTII Chairman on June 9 triggered an indefinite strike by the students, has refused to step down.

The protest has the backing of different student organisations including National Students’ Union Of India. Congress MP Raj Babbar and JD(U) leader K C Tyagi also participated in the protest and backed the students. Mr Babbar expressed his solidarity saying that he will raise the issue in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said government is open to discussions with the agitating students but was against politicising the issue. Targeting Congress Vice President, Mr Rathore said that the strike has taken a political colour after Rahul Gandhi’s visit to FTII.
