On the opening day of the French Open tennis championships in Paris today, fourth seed Grigor Dimitrov reached the second round of Men’s singles by defeating Egyptian world number 182 Mohamed Safwat in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 7-6. Defending champion Rafael Nadal will start his campaign for an 11th Roland Garros title tomorrow.
In women’s singles, fourth seed Elina Svitolina, a quarter-finalist in Paris in 2015 and 2017, overcame Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic 7-5, 6-3.For India, Yuki Bhambri is the only player in the men’s Singles while Rohan Bopanna will be figuring in Men’s Doubles.
