Government has warned manufacturers of a fine of up to one lakh rupees, and a jail term, if new post GST rates are not printed on the inventory. Briefing reporters in New Delhi yesterday, Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said, manufacturers have been allowed to clear the unsold stocks by September with new Maximum Retail Price (MRP). The Minister said, it is mandatory to print revised MRP on the inventory, else stringent action will be taken for violation of the Packaged Commodities Rules. He said, the Consumer Affairs department has set up a committee of officials to protect the interest of consumers and see that they are not cheated by shopkeepers.
Mr Paswan also said, manufacturing companies must print details like expiry date and net quantity on labels on all pre-packaged food in a bigger font size.
