DPCC protests against Rahul arrest

of the Mayawati Government in Uttar Pradesh. They were particularly agitated over high-handed action against the farmers of Bhattaparsol Village in Greater Noida and that the arrest of AICC general-secretary, Rahul Gandhi who sat on a peaceful dharna for the cause of farmers. 

Besides Mr Agarwal, prominent among others who sat on the dharna were AICC senior leader and MP Oscar Fernandes, MPs Mahabal Mishra and SRamesh Kumar, AICC secretary Maj. Ved Prakash.

Addressing the large gathering, Mr Agarwal said the dharna was organized to protest against the arrest of Shri Rahul Gandhi for sitting in a peaceful dharna with the aggrieved farmers. He said Mayawati had exceeded her power and when a leader goes beyond his or her brief, the people would reject such leader with impunity, and Mayawati would face such a fate in UP.

He said the UP Government was indulging in corruption and dictatorship as it was buying the land of the poor farmers of Bhattaparsol Village at a cheap rate and the same land was then being resold to builders for a higher rate. And when the farmers protest, they are beaten up and shot at. Mr Agarwal said many people have been shot by the UP police, and the men folks of many households were in hiding in jungle etc. fearing reprisal by the UP Police. He said in the history of India, such high-handed action on farmers had never happened before.

He said Mayawati panicked when Shri Rahul Gandhi sat on a dharna, and he was arrested by the UP police in a panic reaction. Shri Agarwal said the Congress workers sat on dharna at the Loni Border to warn Mayawati that she should stop human killings, and apologise to Shri Rahul Gandhi. Otherwise, the Congress workers will mount protest agitations against her, and shatter her mental peace.
