35th Hunar Haat begins in New Delhi

On the theme of local for global the 35th Hunar Haat began at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi today. The Ministry of Minority Affairs is the nodal agency of the 14 day long event which will conclude on 5th January next year.

Talking to media at the venue, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said more than 700 artisans and craftsmen from 30 states are taking part in the event.

The Minister said the PM Narendra Modi led government is committed to help small craftsmen and artisans through its policy, programmes and schemes. Mr. Naqvi said the Hunar Haat initiative was launched in 2016 and due to handholding provided by the government so far more than 7.5 lakh indigenous artists have got opportunities and employment through this initiative.

He said out of this about 47 percent beneficiaries are women artisans. The Minister said the event with the tagline of confluence of crafts, cuisine and culture promotes and preserves the indigenous art and craft.
